I live in a very large farmhouse in southern Albany county that was built in 1810. The first thing people always ask is if it's "haunted", I don't know if it's because it's so old or because of it's Victorian remodel done in 1897 when they added the turret. I've heard a few sounds here and there, voices like people downstairs are talking only to find out I'm the only one in the house when I go down, or a chair moving on the wood floor above. I've seen eyes watching me in the woods at night of what I hope was a bear as it walked slowly breaking branches beneath it's feet. Shortly after moving in we had our family visit to see the house. While touring the house my 2 1/2 year old niece started clinging to my sister screaming that she could see the ghosts in one room and wanted to go home, this continued as my sister carried her down to the kitchen where she still sat crying almost unable to catch her breath that she wanted to go home and she could "hear them". Finally after settling down one of my cousins arrived and I was walking her around the house and as we got to that room my niece came back to the room and said "the ghostesses are in here" and we looked around and my cousin asked what they looked like, were they small, were they big, to which she just replied as she shrugged her shoulders and looked at us like we should know "ghostesses". A few months later the family was coming back for a birthday dinner. As I was getting ready for their visit I heard the bathroom window rattle like someone was knocking on it and remembering they bothered my niece so much said "leave her alone, she's just a little girl and you scare her, stay out of the house while she's here, go up to the barn or something or I'll have you exorcised". I went into the kitchen and a jar candle I had burning on the counter shattered as I walked in to the room scaring me and making me jump, it was burning low so I figured it was just the glass getting too hot. After the family got to the house we sat down to eat and as two year olds will do she wandered around the dining room till finally she got to the window and asked my sister "who are those people outside mommy" pointing out into the dark yard. My sister responded that nobody was there and to eat her food to which my niece responded "yes, right there, see" and kept pointing out into the darkness saying "there" and "them". As my sister carried things into the kitchen after dinner I told her how I had told "them" to stay outside. They say that children can see them because their minds are innocent and able to still see such things. She's now five and comes over and asks if there's ghosts to which I only say "I don't know, you said there were". We've had a friend who claims to be psychic say there's "others" in the house, asking who was upstairs when he entered the house while everyone was downstairs. We have housemates who live with us and none of them has ever said they heard or saw something other than a picture frame falling off the wall (that had a bad hook) and a light turning off on one of them (that had a bad turnkey). So do I believe in ghosts? I've seen some pretty convincing photos from a neighbor's house in my home town and I've seen things and heard things that made me wonder. Do I think my house is haunted? Possibly, but I would be interested to see what the experts think.
